About Us

Cory Filgate started the company back in 1995 to service the custom housing market in Sooke, British Columbia. Right from the start T.D.G. The Drywall Guy followed the concept of being fair — fair pricing for customers, fair wages for employees, fair treatment for everyone. This refreshing concept, as well as their dedication to quality workmanship, won the company the preferred vendor position for several custom home builders in the area.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your prices?

We charge a flat per-foot price for the majority of our job sites. We make every attempt to remain competitive in the industry and are constantly working to keep prices low for our contractors. Over-height work, windows, and other special features may have an additional charge to accommodate for the extra time required to perform the work.

To receive a free comprehensive estimate for your job site, simply complete the quote request form and we would be happy to come measure it.

How many years experience do you have?

Cory Filgate, the owner of T.D.G. The Drywall Guy Inc., has been working with drywall since 1986, and started his company in 1996. His crew of professional boarders and tapers have various years of experience, but all meet Cory’s rigorous standards of quality.

What happens if a homeowner wants a change after the drywall is finished?

Changes are commonplace in the world of custom houses. When a change is required, simply contact us and we will schedule the crew to complete the additional work as soon as possible (depending on availability).

Any time a change is made, it may add up to 5 additional working days to the estimated completion time, depending on the amount of drywall mud coats required and the drying time between them.

Note: There may be additional charges incurred, depending on the change requested and the length of time it takes to complete it.

What type of drywall do you recommend for areas where water will be present?

We have done a lot of testing and found that Denshield works better than green board for repelling water. This is our recommended board for tub and shower stalls.

Who is responsible for removing the scraps from the job site?

T.D.G. The Drywall Guy Inc. provides scrap removal as a standard part of our complete drywall installation service. We remove and recycle them for you. Scrap removal is included in our flat per-foot rate that we charge, so there are no additional charges for this service.

How long does taping take?

The taping process typically takes 5 business days. If there is no heat in the building it can take longer.

Do you need heat for drying mud? If so, do you provide it?

Heat is required to dry the mud. Contractors typically are required to provide the heat, but arrangements can be made if required. Additional charges may be incurred if T.D.G. The Drywall Guy Inc. provides the fuel for the heaters.

What types of corners are available?

Choose from square, round (various sized radius are available), or chamfered corners for your walls and windows.

Are you insured?

We have your job site covered with Work Safe BC (Worker’s Compensation) insurance.

The Drywall Guy did several renovation jobs in my townhouse and he did an amazing job. People cannot tell where he patched my textured ceiling as the color and the texture in three different rooms were so well matched. Large areas on walls that were patched, taped and sanded look as if it is the original drywall surface. He also scraped off the texture on my kitchen ceiling, including a skylight and then mudded and sanded it to give me a much more useful and cleaner looking ceiling. He was fast, efficient and highly skilled. I would recommend him to anyone and have done so several times.
